Growth Hormone and Green Tea
Bodybuilders have been trying to increase their levels of human growth hormone (HGH) ever since they realised what it is capable of. HGH not only heightens the body’s lean muscle production so we can walk around saying look at these guns.
But the increased levels of HGH can also decrease the overall percentage of body fat. Probably most importantly it improves the level of cardiovascular health in a person.
Other benefits include better attitude, sleep patterns, and even sexual performance, yay we’re all up for that, the better attitude!!!
HGH is produced by the pituitary gland, which is in the brain. It is a naturally occurring bodily substance. Unfortunately, however that production is not infinite, as it slows over the course of one’s life. Obviously this impacts on us as we age. We begin to lose muscle definition. We don’t sleep as well as we did so we all end up grumpy and tired. And our sexual performance tends to dwindle so we end up reading a good book in bed!! So I’m told.
That being said, there are of course methods in which one can give a boost to their Growth Hormone production and general levels. Yay good news!!!
Apparently one of them is really simple. Believe it or not, green tea happens to be one of the simplest ways that one can increase your level of HGH.
Let me explain. The active ingredient in green tea is called epigallocatechin gallate (otherwise known as EGCG). In a recent study by the Alternative Medicine Review, EGCG was shown to have a direct correlation on the body’s level of HGH. Researchers made some participants eat a diet that was calorie-restricted and included green tea products, with others using a placebo, all for a total of 90 days.
At the end of the test period the results showed that the participants who used the green tea for the 90 day period had increased their levels of HGH by an incredible margin of 320% compared to only 20% of those who used the placebo. The participants who were using the green tea product also had their IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor) increase by 24% compared to only 15% with the placebo users.
Another massive bonus was that the green tea users lost nearly three times as much weight as the placebo group as well. IGF-1 happened to be shown to be more reliable than HGH when it comes to detailing changes in hormones. That being said, both IGF-1 and HGH levels were increased when green tea products were used.
So what does that mean?
I know we all don’t want to be body builders, with muscles upon muscles, or maybe you do! But if we can find ways to keep our HGH levels higher that will definitely benefit us as we get older; keeping us fitter and stronger for longer. It will also support weight loss in a healthy natural way.
The results in the study did take somewhat of a long time to appear though, only showing up until around the end of the study time limit (90 days). So it is important just like any life style change it we are really in it for the long haul. When it comes to green tea and HGH levels, just as with training and diet, consistency is the aim here!! But if by just drinking green tea we are able to lose weight, keep muscle and improve our general well-being it seems worth it to me. And actually green tea is a lovely refreshing drink to share with friends!! Win, Win, Win.
I hope you found that interesting. If you have any questions at all on what I have talked about, definitely reach out to me in the comments of this post and I will get back to you! Green Tea time with friends!!!
