Welcome to the Nerd Style Wellness blog. This site is dedicated to those of us who have struggled to lose weight, who wouldn’t know what a healthy food was if we tripped over it, thought a calorie was a type of gas. It’s for those of us who don’t know how much exercise to do or have bought all the gear but have no idea. Or for those of us that feel bad because we continually fail to stick to any eating or exercise plan for more than 20 minutes. Basically for those of us who can’t see the wood for trees when it comes to all the mixed messages we are continually bombarded with from all directions about living a healthier life style. This site is going to try and help you understand what it all means and help you make decisions and choices that will improve your health and well-being. And show you that most of it isn’t our fault and we aren’t just weak willed and hopeless.
Do you struggle with healthy eating…because you’re not quite sure what it all means?
Are you food confused?
Do you want to become fitter but really don't like to go to the gym. Or feel self conscious about starting.
Are you desperate to start on the road to a healthier lifestyle but not sure where to start?
Whatever your reason is for wanting to make a change, you’re not alone! Every day, thousands of people make the decision to start eating better and losing weight…and every day those thousands of people don’t really have any plan or idea what they’re doing.
But why are there so many decisions to make?????
Should I follow a food chain?
Should I be counting calories?
Should I only eat grass? You don’t see fat animals.
If it says ‘Mini’ I can eat as mini as I can?
Should I only eat white foods, every other day?
If I had to break down the Nerd Style Wellness eating plan into a single sentence, it would be something like this:
“You’re smart and you know what real food is, so just stop eating crap.”
You know what real food is: things that grew in the ground, on a tree, came out of the sea, ran on the land, or flew through the air. Meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts are all great examples of REAL food.
On top of that, you know what crap food is: food that comes from a fast food window, a vending machine, box, bag, or wrapper. If it has an ingredient list longer than a film’s cast list, it’s probably not good for you. If it started out as real food and then went through fourteen steps to get to the point where you’re about to eat it, it’s probably not good for you. If the ingredient names have more letters in than the whole game of scrabble (other word games are available) it's probably not good for you.
Use this information and combine it with this mantra: “you can’t outrun your knife and fork“. When trying to lose weight, feel healthy, and get in shape, 80% of your success or failure will come down to how well you eat – and that is it, no more and no less!!!!
Why do you think body builders are so conscious about their food????
Why Nerd Style Wellness?? Well what changed for me was I’d noticed over the last few years was how the food we eat had really changed. How our life styles had changed and how these life styles are promoted as the way we should be living. But most importantly the way everyone was becoming sicker, bigger and that our general wellness was getting worse and worse. But it's the way that this is now becoming the norm that is making me feel sick. The way the powers that be are making sickness and obesity a normal way of life. Getting us to accept that that is the way things are. That it's just a part of life to be sick, unfit and miserable. Especially as we can improve our lot really very easily.
It is also the messages that say it is our fault that we are ill. I remember, a while back now ( but not that long ago) when I tried to sell insurance, that the statistics for getting one of those unpopular illnesses was 1 in 5. It is now estimated that it is 1 in 2 of us will be affected. Well I'm pretty certain that we as a human race haven't changed genetically. So why are we becoming more likely to become ill. So I started to learn and read more about how our bodies work and how what we eat and the life styles that we lead directly impact on our health and well being. Through this blog and the resources on it, I would like to pass on to you the things I've learned, so maybe you to might want to learn more. If nothing else, please just question what you eat and why you eat it. Also please understand that our bodies are remarkable and we are not supposed to be unwell. Our bodies will and can make us fit and healthy and give us a long and happy life. We just need to help it do it's work.
